For three generations the Schletewitz family has been growing fruit on their farm. The land was first purchased by Eric Schletewitz's grandparents in 1932 and has been in the family ever since. Eric and his family are committed to sustainable farming practices. As a part of his commitment, the farm is using non-conventional fertilizers.

150 acres in Fresno, CA

Pest Management:

Pheremone disruptors, tilling and mowing for pest control.

Soil:

Fertilized with compost and rock minerals

Water Use:

Sierra Nevada runoff and receive it through consolidation irrigation from King’s River. We use flood irrigation.

Weed Control:

Shovels and flaming technique.

Fun Facts

Eric’s family were Volgar Deustch Germans that were given homesteads during Catherine the Great’s reign. They were “wild west” Farmers in Russia until Stalin came into power and his family had to flee. Eric still farms on the land and lives in the house that his grandfather built. Part of the reason they ended up in Fresno is that his ancestors were used to tilling wild land.
