The Westside Market

The Westside Farmers’ Market takes place every Saturday, year round at the corner of Hwy 1 and Western Drive. Here we serve the communities of the west end of Santa Cruz including Bonny Doon, the North Coast and the University of California,  Santa Cruz campus. Sitting on the northern edge of Santa Cruz’s greenbelt this market is a great launching location for a day outdoors at Natural Bridges beach, Wilder Ranch or any adventure spot up the coast. It is also just a hop, skip and a jump, or bike ride, from Downtown.

A community hub for nearly 20 years, the Westside Market showcases a great selection of organic and ecologically grown produce, artisan foods, body products, garden starts, sustainable seafood, pasture-raised meats, flowers and eggs along with cook-to-order cultural meals, live local music and a full espresso bar operated by Foolhardy Coffee. With an abundance of free parking and accessibility on its side, this market makes for a convenient and celebratory Saturday morning outing any time of the year.

Quarterly Gift Fair at the Westside Market

Four times a year the Westside Market comes alive with an additional offering. Alongside the farmsteads of red and green rose-shaped lettuces and every color of pluot and chicory – find a curated selection of local artists selling their wares. From functional and artful ceramics to illustrated art, leather ware, botanical designs, body products and preserves, this line up of 10 to 12 businesses prioritizes the makings of those who live in these mountains and valleys and seaside towns. Market Match & EBT

Established in 2015, Market Match continues to run strong as our foundational food-access program. Largely funded through state and federal funding, Market Match provides a dollar-for-dollar match up to $15; $15 of EBT is matched with $15 in Market Match  (MM) for fresh fruits and vegetables. EBT is also known as CalFresh (statewide) and the Supplemental Nutrition Incentive Program federally – historically EBT has been called foodstamps. If a customer swipes their EBT card for seven dollars, they get seven dollars in MM tokens for free. Swipe for $15 EBT and receive $15 MM. Swipe for $20 EBT and receive $15 MM – the match maxing out at $15.

The goal of this project is to encourage EBT recipients to take advantage of fresh, California-grown fruits and vegetables from small and mid-sized farmers. By offering an incentive that makes fresh produce more affordable we help shoppers stretch their food dollars while buying nutritious food. Locate the information booth and the market manager to redeem EBT coins and to participate in the Market Match program.
